Beantwoord door V700 register in topic tekst en uitleg when I
tekst en uitlegwhen I picked up the 745 turbo with a blown headgasket. Well, the very night I got it home I was thinking about what to do with the engine (before I knew the head was a goner - which pushed me in this direction). While browsing the web I started looking for V8 Volvos and came across an ad that held promise; "1988 760 wagon with 1992 Mustang GT engine and AOD transmission. Silver exterior with charcoal leather interior Stock engine with the exception of the BBK intake and a CSR o-ring Thermostat Housing I spent quite a bit of time going through it and replacing poorly done electrical connections with proper solder and heat shrink joints. . Ipd Sway Bars. The transmission received a high performance rebuild with upgraded clutch packs in July 2005 from Transmaster.. Koni Adjustable Shocks. SS brake lines. Zimmerman cross drilled rotors. E-code lights with 100/130 bulbs, relays and separate fuses for each circuit, powered by a 200AMP PA Performance alternator with heavy-duty wiring. 1pr of Extra Lenses . Brand new PA Performance Hi Torque Mini Starter . 940SE Eggcrate Grill . Rear mounted Optima Red Top battery . BBK intake . Custom bent exhaust with Magnaflow muffler. The car has catalytic converters, and has passed Wisconsin emissions testing (sensor in tailpipe with the car on rollers) in the past.. DC Controls fan controller with 16" SPAL Fan . Re-cored 760 radiator with heavy duty coils . Overload springs . Stock steering wheel and stereo . Flex-a-Lite transmission cooler with braided SS lines . 16" Borbet type E wheels with 225/50/16 Kumho tires for the summer . Stock Volvo wheels with Nokian Hakkapeliitta RSi tires for some piece of mind during the winter months.. Alpine head unit with iPod control. 6 disk pioneer changer. Momo Corse Steering wheel. Stock steering wheel and stereo" That's when I just put the blow-headgasket 745 on craigslist.I ended up driving up (in my Volvo 965) to Wisconsin, 2000 miles roundtrip, to look at it. 13 hours up, 3 hours driving, looking, asking, then 13 hours home again - that was a long weekend. I deliberately didn't bring money because I've rushed into things in the past when I've been too excited and overlooked issues. I didn't want to makethe same mistake this time. This car drives great, hauls serious a$$(compared to stock Volvos) and has enough goodies that if I tire of the V8 kick, I can recover the money - I hope - and have then had the pleasure of driving one.Mulling over this for over a month while keeping in touch with the seller had me making an offer and coming to an agreement on price, and Saturdaymorning I flew up to pick the car up.I spent almost 1000 miles in it after topping off the tank (and picking up goodies at Trader Joe's too hehe) and the car is an absolute blast to drive. At 75-80mph, I can be firm and in a split second propel the car to over 100mph in the blink of an eye. Something that paid off a few times when morons on the road were in the way.Not only that, this car sounds AWESOME! The guy spent $700 on a new exhaust, two cats and mufflers and proper bends etc. Very very sweet sound and a fantastic rumble at idle. Now that I've driven it a bit, I have a few thoughts; 1, It's a 1988 and as such has brittle and cracked plastic in the interior and rattles a bit. Coming from my 965, that bugs me to no end. 2, Someone has dinged the driver side quarterpanel and the tailgate and the repaint was a poor job so the paint looks rough on closer inspection and there are some creases from it. 3, The usual things with an older car, the power seats are a little flaky though the interior is remarkably good. Also, some window trim is dried and has chipped a bit. I knew these things from looking at it but got it anyway, and my thoughts are to find a nice 965 ('95 as they can be found without roof racks) that works all the way through, then pull the engine and transplant the V8 into it. On the road, I got an average of 19mpg and that's having fun with it.That's the same as the noticably weaker whiteblock in my 965 got doing thesame drive! If I do the transplant, I will have most everything I needwhat with motormounts, wiring and the knowledge that the driveline works - a major bonus compared to piecing a car like this together from scratch. I should be able to sell this car without the driveline because of the adjustable Konis, the overload springs, the E-codes, nice wheels, ipod compatible stereo and rear-mount battery. SOMEONE will want all that and stick a turbo back in it. Also, the spare parts would go with it.Another thought is that I will drive it for a month and figure that the V8 kick was just a fling I had and sell the car as it.I guess I'll know more in a month or so. Either way, I am very excited, but first I have to fix a broken wheel stud.I drove to work today and on the way home noticed that the car made a speed-related noise from the rear. It also felt a little squirrely. I pulled over and realized that a stud was broken and the other nuts on the rear tire were finger tight! Major panick given high rates of speed for 1000 miles last night! Yikes!
